Bid made: West Ham are looking to start their summer spending – report

|

Mario Husillos has made an early move in the transfer market, according to the Daily Mail, with our Director of Football reportedly lodging an offer for Deportivo Alaves ace Guillermo Maripan.

The Chilean centre-back is believed to be a target of Serie A side AS Roma as well.

The Stadio Olimpico natives are also thought to have reached out to Alaves in recent weeks to discuss a potential deal, with the discussions held moving the Giallorossi into pole position for Maripan.

Whether or not Roma Sporting Director Frederic Massara made a bid for the 6 ft 3 defender has not been noted, however. Husillos, though, is said to have placed a £9.5million offer on the table for the 26-year-old.

Should Husillos manage to pull off a lowball scoop for the Alaves ace, his arrival at the London Stadium should cast some further doubt over Winston Reid’s future at the club, you’d think.

Football.London recently suggested the 30-year-old defender will be playing for his future in Claret and Blue once the new season rolls around, having been unable to show Manuel Pellegrini what he has in store thanks to his lengthy injury.

The 24-cap former New Zealand international has been training with the first-team of late, though, which has given Reid one last shot at earning a place in the squad for next season.

That said, a move for someone like Maripan would likely push him further down the pecking order, though at this stage that’s just speculation.

What is clear here is that West Ham are looking to get their summer spending underway, and they’re looking towards Maripan as their first potential signing.
