Coming on from the substitutes bench on Saturday, Andy Carroll wasn`t given the opportunity to flex his muscles.

As we pointed out in the aftermath of the defeat, to Everton, our record striker never really got the kind of service he needs to shine.

With international football soon to return to the centre stage, the age-old question as to whether Andy Carroll will make the England squad continues to be asked.

Sam Allardyce appears to be giving his backing to the striker remarking recently,

“If Andy stays fit, it`s in his hands.”

“If he plays as well as he did at the end of last season, when he scored six in the last 13, then Roy can`t ignore him.”

However, Sam may go that extra mile for the national cause by arranging some behind closed doors matches, or as Sam succinctly puts it,

“Its match-fitness Andy needs. We may possibly fit in a game behind closed doors.”

“If we can find a team that`s good enough then Andy, our Italian lads, Roger Johnson, Ricardo Vaz Te, Joe Cole, Pablo Armero and a few others can get match practice too.”

A damn fine idea I`d say, how about you?
