Another West Ham exit confirmed

|

West Ham have sold Lucas Pérez to Deportivo Alavés for an undisclosed fee.

The Spanish striker had only been with the Hammers for one season, scoring six goals in 20 games, with 13 of his appearances coming from the bench.

The undoubted highlight of his time in claret and blue is when he became the first West Ham player in 19 years to come off the bench in the Premier League and score twice, as the Hammers beat Cardiff City 3-1.

However, frustrations around a lack of game time having managed just four Premier League starts, made it clear the player would be willing to leave.

The move benefits West Ham, as it has got his considerable wages off their bill, meaning they can now reinvest as Manuel Pellegrini looks to overhaul his squad.

Pérez is already the fifth senior player to leave West Ham this summer, with Adrian, Andy Carroll and Samir Nasri being released, while Edimilson Fernandes was sold to 1. FSV Mainz 05.

The Hammers’ Chilean manager is hoping to bring his compatriot Guillermo Maripán in the opposite direction to that which Pérez has travelled, with the Hammers having had a bid of around £10 million rejected as Alavés hold out for a sum closer to his 25 million euro release clause.
