Alan Pardew takes over at Charlton

Alan Pardew has replaced Les Reed as Charlton manager today to become the club’s third manager this season. Reed himself had been a replacement for former hammer Iain Dowie. Richard Murray, the Charlton chairman, had been busy publicly pinning the blame for their poor season on Dowie recently, but it seems he has faced up to the inevitable. After one win in eight games and becoming subject to increasing ridicule in the media, Les Reed was a certainty to go.

Replacing (current Hammers’ boss) Alan Curbishley has proved difficult for Charlton, who have a reputation for being a well run, family club. Murray’s erratic behaviour this season may be eroding that slightly after the bizarre sacking of Dowie (12 games played, lots of money spent), the even more bizarre appointment for Reed – on a 3 year contract – the media outburst and now yet another change in leadership.

Pardew was an obvious choice, having been a former player and readily available after his own harsh dismissal from the Boelyn earlier this month. West Ham fans mostly wished Pardew well when the new chairman sacked him, but now Pards is a rival in the relegation battle the goodwill may quickly fade.
