“A distinct possibility”: Former England goalkeeper believes Declan Rice saga could take another turn

|

The straw that broke the camel’s back?

Could West Ham’s defeat be what puts Declan Rice in the mood to take his talent away from The London Stadium? Well it might just be according to one former professional. Despite the club seemingly intent on making him stay, the speculation surrounding a move to Stamford Bridge just will not go away.

But one way to make that happen will be to just make the move a reality, and according to ex-England man Paul Robinson, that could be happening sooner rather than later. Speaking to Football Insider, the former England keeper believes that time could be running out for Rice in East London, with the game on Saturday contributing to it:

“I think Declan Rice’s head has been turned by speculation. It is hard for it not to be when you are playing in a team that is in the bottom half of the Premier League and you are linked with a club the size of Chelsea.

There is a distinct possibility that the transfer could happen. West Ham were very poor and I expected more from them on Saturday. New season but a familiar story. It was worrying from a West Ham point of view.”

Would you sell Rice this summer?

Yes

No

Whilst the club might think that they have the power to control this situation, I think that the longer it doesn’t look like there’s any positivity in our future, the more likely that someone like Rice decides to up sticks and put in a transfer request, and games like that one won’t do us much good.

And taking a look at our run of fixtures coming up, it doesn’t look like there might be much positivity on the horizon, so the team are going to have to pull out something special, otherwise one of our most valuable assets might decide he doesn’t want to be our asset anymore.
