22-year-old West Ham man extends his loan – report

West Ham have confirmed that Martin Samuelsen’s loan with his hometown club FK Haugesund has been extended until 31st December 2019.

The 22-year-old started his loan spell in Norway back in February, having had his spell with Dutch side VVV Venlo cut short.

He has scored twice in 12 league matches for Haugesund so far, adding a further four in the Norwegian Cup.

The extension of his loan deal will see him complete the Eliteserien season with Haugesund, as they aim to progress from their current standing of eighth to break into the top three and earn Europa League football.

Since joining West Ham from Manchester City in 2015, Samuelsen has also had two loans with Peterborough United as well as temporarily representing Blackburn Rovers and Burton Albion.

It will be felt by many that he needs to show what he can offer the Hammers if he is to be kept at the club beyond his current contract, which expires next summer.

There was plenty of promise when he first came to East London, as he made his debut in the Europa League against Birkirkara when he came on with just over half an hour remaining in the first leg.

Though the one minute he got in the return leg is the only other game time he has had for the West Ham first team since.
