West Ham United found out that they will be kicking off the 2019/20 Premier League campaign with a home encounter against Manchester City and it is safe to say fans were not happy with how the schedule turned out for them.
The Hammers, unfortunately, are no strangers to facing a team from the top-six on the opening day of a season as it will be the sixth year in a row whereby we have had to do it.
The visit of the current Premier League champions means we will have played every single ‘big club’ in the top-flight as our opening game over the last six years, having started with Tottenham Hotspur back in 2014.
Boxing Day at home has also become a myth of sorts for us since moving to the London Stadium, as we will be on the road to Crystal Palace – it has been suggested (ExWHUemployee, 12 June 2019) that the busy Boxing Day sales event at Westfield is likely to have meant we can not entertain a match on that particular day.
Fans took to Twitter once the fixtures had been confirmed and hardly anybody was surprised with how things had turned out.
Many of them had stated that they had felt it was a ‘fix’ whilst others felt the Premier League had it in for them and were having a laugh.
One supporter even went as far as to do the maths regarding facing the ‘big six’ and meeting every single one of them on the opening day of the season six times in a row and came back with an answer of ‘0.00153042%’. Here are what some of the fans had to say regarding the fixture list…
We have been given all 6 of the ‘Big 6’ to play on the opening day of the season for the last 6 years.
According to my maths, the chances of that occurring randomly are..
Wait for it…
